I started writing a super eloquent post about the language we use to talk about mental health, in honour of time to talk day*, but, well, this has not been a thinking in paragraphs kind of week. Or in fact one for thinking in straight lines. So here’s one I made earlier.
*If you are supporting time to talk day, it would be really cool if you could use your five minutes to inform yourself and have a conversation about one of the mental illnesses whose reputation is mostly still stuck somewhere in the 1950s, like schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. We’ve come on leaps and bounds in terms of talking about things like depression, anxiety, PTSD (though there’s still a ways to go) but psychotic illnesses still terrify most people, as they did me until I ended up in the bowels of the mental health system. Campaigner Jonny Benjamin’s twitter and vlogs like this one might be a good place to start.
